It's my Birthday!
26 years around the sun completed, and here are a few things I have learnt, that I think might help you in adulting.
(Read time <5 mins)
Hey!
So, I celebrated my birthday over the weekend, and I thought about how some creators do X lessons for my X birthday. And that got me thinking, ‘Why don’t I share a bunch of things I know now, that I wished Rue in her early 20s knew’ and how that would have benefitted me.

Happy Birthday to me
Now, it’s always easier to look in hindsight at things, so I am not being harsh on myself, and neither should you. But I like to think that if any of my readers are in their early 20s, this would be really helpful. And for those on my level and higher, it’s either an agreeing perspective or an exposure to a different way of thinking. (And don’t worry it’s not 26 lessons, I couldn’t think of that many haha).
It’s never that serious - I was raised to think everything was serious. But it’s a matter of priority. Once I know where my priorities are, I can know what is serious and what isn’t.
The aim is to not to have everything completely figured out, but to actually find the pockets of joy embedded in this horrifying maze called ‘adulthood’ - I was trying so hard to ‘fix’ myself, so then I could be happy all the time, but now I know I don’t need to be. The rollercoaster of adulting means, when there is a high, it’s amazing, and when there is a low it’s not. But the peace of neutrality is what makes adulting more manageable.
I determine my own worth and value, no one else can affect that - Realising this has meant I can choose how I respond to how others perceive me. I have recently found out I don’t care about what anyone thinks of me, who isn’t someone I care to keep in my life. I know my value and worth, and anyone of insignificance to me can’t change that. (Now I have gone and removed me caring about 99% of the populations thoughts about me - a huge weight has lifted off me)
Money is not the be all and end all, but it sure does make things a whole lot easier - 99% of my problems would defo be solved with money. That old saying is true to an extent, but until I reach the level of money, that makes it true, then it’s defo a tool I need to master for myself.
There is more than one path for you - There is such a focus on one path for us to follow, but I think there are multiple, and depending on what choices we make, we change the trajectory. So, you will be on the right path for you, but it’s one of many, and they all lead to the same end point: You reminiscing the good ol’ days, and gently moving to what’s next after this. Isn’t that what we want in the end, a good life to look back on?
It’s safe to say, there is a reason it took me until 26 to realise these lessons, so I am not saying you should have everything figured out with regards to what’s mentioned above. But if you already have some lessons under your belt, then you are more available to deal with bigger more challenging ones, and reach your full potential. How great is that?!
Anyways, thanks again for reading and I hope you have a great week.

Rue
