Psst...I'm not here here, you know

I am amazed I have managed to pull this off, but I have been away on holiday (out of the country) for over a week now, and this post was written 2 weeks ago.

(Read time <5 mins)

Hey!

So, one thing that people say about content creation of any kind, is that batch content is a lifesaver. And I have been fighting for my life with this concept. Especially since my family takes a yearly holiday around September, and I normally fall off the wagon for 6 weeks. So, here are is an insight to me and content creation for this blog, newsletter and the accompanying social media.

At this moment I don’t know if I am getting blue hair on my trip, but I’m definitely capturing to post when I’m back

1. How I create my content

Mon

Thurs

Fri - Sun

AM

Edit (or write scripts) on the bus to work

Hope that I write the blog for the week

PM

Write the blog that I didn’t write on the weekend

Add images to blog and schedule for 7pm

Doom scroll for trends and ideas for next weeks videos

Take it easy, or if I have energy, start filming videos for next week

Dedicate 6 hrs over the 3 days to create 1 newsletter and up to 6 social media posts and schedule

And that is my ideal week. So far, that has only happened the last 4 weeks (ignoring the fact I am currently on holiday, so the content until next week, was created at the beginning of September).

2. How I have made content creation feel easier

  • AI: I don’t like using AI that much, because environmentally it’s not great. But I am creating a lot of content by myself, and I am not talented in art, so I am using AI for the images in my newsletter and occasionally in my blog.

  • I purge my phone and Google photos memory at least twice a week: One time I permanently deleted a video I needed, and I was devastated. So, I frequently try to back up everything during the week onto my external hard drive.

  • I learnt to edit on my laptop: This is easier because I purge onto my hard drive, so I naturally copy files to Capcut from the hard drive. But also, sometimes it’s hard to edit on your phone screen. I need a full iPad but I don’t have that kind of money. So, where I can, I happily edit on my laptop. Along with Capcut, I have also learnt how to code with DaVinci Resolve, but my laptop can’t handle it, so it’s a back up skill, for a more powerful laptop in my future.

  • Scheduling content: Like I mentioned, I don’t manually post my content. Scheduling is the future, and I have a job to pay my bills, since this is not making me money yet. IG has its own internal scheduling in the app. TikTok I had to download TikTok Studio which has the scheduling function. And YouTube has it’s own internal scheduling. The newsletter and blog platforms I schedule as well. So, it’s very handy

3. What I find hard about creating content

  • Thinking of new ideas: Sometimes even googling about what other people are struggle with in adulting, does not spark anything in my creative brain. At that point, I choose to doom scroll and see what random people post and see if I land on idea or a trend I can hop on. (defo hopping on trends a good 2 weeks after they were trending)

  • The time to create: This is still a work in progress, but I use 6 hours over an empty weekend to write a newsletter and create up to 6 social media posts (from scratch). However, lately I have been better, and I have found pockets of time, whilst commuting to work to edit videos, or write scripts for them, which is making my life a little easier.

  • The fear: If you scroll to the start of my IG or the first 12 months of blogs, you will see some amazingly cringey content, and I was petrified of posting all of it. Honestly, I didn’t start feeling confident until April 2025, when I had finished a challenge of posting every day for 40 days. And even now, there are some posts that I have done a lot of editing on, and I still feel like ‘Oh I don’t think I want to post this anymore’. But I still do, because I don’t want to make another. 🤣

  • The tools: There are so many things out there that are targeted for content creators, to ‘make it better/easier for us to post’, and I can easily convince myself that I need it to post. I don’t. I film on my iPhone, I edit on free Capcut, either on my laptop or my phone. I use a ring light from Aldi, but if I can’t be bothered to move it, I use my flash on my phone. I have a tripod from amazon. And I only purchased a second hand apple watch, in Aug 2024, for the camera mirror function.

So, that’s an insight into my chaotic content creation. But I honestly enjoy it. I think it’s because it’s so different to my 9-5. It’s a creative outlet, that I use to release steam and it’s a digital record of my adulting journey. I have grown a lot since I started this way back in Jan 2022. And I really can’t wait to see, how things change for me in the future.

I’ll chat to you when I fully return to office. For now, I’m enjoying my sun 😎

Rue, out✌🏾
