Some tips about renting in the UK
I have been renting since I moved out of my parents in 2017.
(Read time <5 mins)
And just like that a whole year has gone in my new rental place. I have been renting since 2017, and as much as I would like to buy, my taste is a little too bougie for my bank right now. So renting it is.
There are a few things that come with renting that I never knew, until I got caught in them and suffered. So hopefully these will come in handy for you.

Some tips about renting in the UK
If you leave your contract early, you will be liable for the council tax for the full term of your contract. (I got a nasty surprise last year, when I was contacted for a house I moved out of in 2022)
Do you know how handy content insurance is? I had a friend whose flat was flooded by the floor above, by pure accident. You bet they were glad they had contents insurance, because your landlord wouldn't cover something like that.
Whenever you consider moving, have a checklist of what's important to you. I had a friend talk me out of moving, by reminding me how I hate having to maintain a garden full of grass. (it's not fun or cheap in the summer)
You can't hire a moving van if you are under 25 years of age (guess who moved multiple times before they were 25, and had to find creative ways to move?)
Ring up WiFi providers before you move to see if they can connect your house. I found out my street has too many people on TalkTalk, so they couldn't transfer my account to my new place, but they didn't tell me, so I ended up spending 4 weeks with no WiFi. (since it takes on have 2-3 weeks for a new company to connect you)
There is nothing wrong with renting. Sometimes renting is the better solution for you. There is flexibility of location, if things change. Sometimes it's not ideal, but just because you don't 'have property' doesn't mean you are wasting money.
I have been in my current place for a year now, and even though I have browsed at houses to buy, I think I will sit tight another year before I move again (to another rental). I wouldn't be surprised if on my next move, I have learnt more lessons, but that just means more tips for you.🤣
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great week.
