Well, that was short lived...

Adulting is realising that some problems take more time to resolve than others

(Read time <5 mins)

Hey,

Remember two weeks ago I said my credit card balance reached 3 figures for the fist time in a while? And that even though this milestone is a great achievement, I was only 1 small purchase away from entering 4 figures again?

Well, 1 birthday and 2 graduations later, I am back in the 4 figures.

Adulting is about balancing the realistic goals, with your dreams and ambitions, and trying to not beat yourself up for not achieving your dream, just yet. I knew I wanted to treat myself over my birthday week (which was spent in London for work as well). But damn, I had underestimated how expensive London was. On top of that, my little sis and mum both graduated from their courses, so I got them a little something for their achievements. So understandably, I spent a lot more than I had hoped in these last two weeks, but I have no regrets. Why?

I spent it on experiences and moments I couldn’t re-live in my life in the future. Sure, we have birthdays every year, but how many are we guaranteed? A lot of people graduate and in a family of academics, graduations aren’t scarce, but why choose which ones are worth celebrating, especially when everyone is still on achieving their first degrees? - So, to me it was well justified spending, and if you disagree or think I could have done this differently, let me know by replying back to this email. I am very open to being a more savvy and financially responsible adult.

So some lessons I learnt these last two weeks:

  1. London is hella expensive, if you have budgeted anything for it, best to double that budget (at least).

  2. Realistically, I want to pay off my credit card by the end of the year, but ambitiously I wanted to be done by now. It’s not the end of the world, especially since I got to live and experience things that I probably won’t witness again with the same people. So, I have no guilt/regret for any purchases made.

  3. Magic Mike Live is NOT a strip show, and presents the performers artistically with a lot of teasing for women, which I greatly appreciated (though lap dance (s) are optional if you are sat in the right seat to get one - I might have been lucky to get a couple 😉)

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great week.
